A plush, but fairly typical hotel lobby lounge just a stone's
throw from the hustle and bustle of Patpong. Comfortable seating
in a relaxed atmosphere with attentive service from the waiting
staff. The live music is exactly what you would expect in
a place like this with current residents being The Golden
Bamboo. This male/female, piano/vocals duo play a range of
pop standards with the emphasis on easy listening.

Hunting may no longer be PC but this pub in the basement of
the Landmark Hotel is always correct. House band Sweet Inspiration
are a tight unit who perform well arranged covers of contemporary
music with great harmonies and, although it's all a bit Radio
2, it goes well with the surroundings! When the band isn't
playing, the central bar makes a good focal point and if you're
a bit peckish you'll find a good menu of mostly pub grub.

A hangout drinking spot that has recently been refurbished
to put the emphasis firmly on drinking and hanging as opposed
to dining. That said, there are two good menus: Thai and international,
which means that if you are Thai you get given a Thai menu
and visa versa - a trifle presumptuous one thinks. The music
is lively and the staff fun, but will La Nina take from the
ever popular Spasso across the road? Only time will tell.

Downstairs in Riva's the thundering beat is dominant, two
floors up in the Living Room a siesta can easily be attained.
The whole area, Lobby and Living Room, is a vast man-made
cavern with a décor that would have happened if the
Pharaohs had got into art deco. The music is soothing, thus
making it the ideal place to take an over-frisky spouse who
has been geed up by Bangkok's exciting nightlife. Sit him
down here for half an hour and to sleep he will surely go.

Also called the champagne bar, this stylish lounge overlooks
the impressive lobby area of this five-star hotel. The vegetation
and waterfalls through the picture window, across the lobby,
are spectacular. Needless to say the music is understated
and discreet. This is more the place for a nightcap or pre-nuptial
tete á tete than a party.

At first sight the room appears stark, almost art deco, with
a bar straight out of Rebel Without A Cause. Californian chef
Steve is the chef manager and a friendly cove who will make
certain you're comfortable and well fed. The menu has a Californian
edge, although the base cooking is classical with modern twists,
and the wine list is impressive. The music is provided by
top quality jazz musicians.

Log yes, but cabin no. Tree genocide must have been committed
to build this vast log mansion/palace/hall/pile! The place
has three restaurants, offering everything from Thai food
in the pub/main music area, to a do-it-yourself barbie and
a slick Jap restaurant on the first floor. There are also
karaoke rooms, a wine club and teppanyaki food. The music
varies from night to night with blues, Dixieland jazz, pop
and rock 'n' roll all getting a slot. Upstairs in the smart
restaurant a piano/trumpet duo play standards with style and
polish.

This is a large restaurant with a classically kitsch décor
that is undoubtedly Italian. The tables are large and the
chairs comfortable. The menu is extensive with all the usual
Italian favourites plus well thought out daily specials. The
food is prepared to order and served by a well-trained, slick
waiting staff. This is Italian food by Italians for Italians.
There's also a good deli attached to the restaurant. Monday
to Saturday you can listen to live music from the resident
pianist (7pm-9pm) and pop band Floret (9.30pm-midnight).

Great futuristic décor both outside and in the pub.
Enough amps and speakers to make a touring rock band happy
and all in a room the size of an executive office. Not for
those with delicate hearing, or pacemakers! The bad bit is
that they charge for drinks before you go inside. That's not
a bad idea when the band is shaking the walls, but if the
place is empty, and the band replaced by rock music videos,
it feels like a clip to get you in. Knowledge of cocktails
is trivial, if not insufficient.

Wooden furniture and a vodka bar are the main features of
this pleasant pub on the first floor of the Amari Atrium hotel.
The menu has some good plain grills as well as Tex Mex and
Thai food, mainly cooked for foreigners. I had a very good
fusion-style dish of rock lobster tail and pork tenderloin
with a green curry sauce. That worked well and looked good.
Currently the music is provided by The New York Jazz band,
fronted by American Idrees Daahood who describes himself as
a "jazz singer with horns." But fear not, he is
not the devil in disguise but a very good trumpet player and
singer.

Small, modern two-level bar run by Frank, aka 'Frank Superstar'
from his long time involvement with the Superstar agogo in
Patpong many moons ago. The small food menu is headed 'nufood
menu' which just about somes up the mix of Thai, tex mex and
international favourites. Upstairs the cooks work in an open
plan, with the restaurant area, kitchen. Downstairs the bar
features prominently in this clean white space.
Live music is currently provided by punk-style JAWA on Saturdays.
Musik Café

Aimed primarily at business types, though not exclusively,
this modern air-con bar has plenty going for it. The beer
is well priced (59 baht for a draught Carlsberg), the staff
friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. Live music comes from
the resident keyboard player during the week who knocks out
decent renditions of 60s and 70s standards. On Saturdays a
disco plays the original versions and between 4pm and 10pm
beer is just 39 baht a glass. Plenty of attractive girls too,
but this is Soi 33 so the bar fines are pretty high - from
600-1,000 baht. There's also a pool table on the mezzanine
floor and a modest pub grub/Thai menu.
O'Reilly's Irish Pub & Restaurant

Self-styled 'Thairish' theme pub on the corner of Soi Thaniya
and Silom Road that's a classic 'Irish pub in a box', with
Guinness on tap and waitresses in little green outfits. That
said, it's not a bad place and does have a fairly decent menu:
I had the fish and chips (Bt250) and the Guinness batter was
first class. Highlight of the night though was Beatles cover
band, The Better, who played note-perfect renditions of Fab
Four classics. The band dress in Beatle suits and sport 60's-style
mullets and are a must see, Wednesdays and Saturdays from
9.30pm-ish. Venue also hosts a blues jam every Sunday from
5pm with Dr Blues, and Irish jiggers, Life After Nine, play
Sunday nights from 9pm.

A fairly typical, uninspiring hotel lobby area, just to the

pop, but there are much better places to go nearby - including
