Radio City
Patpong 1.
Tel: 02-266 4567.
Open: 7pm-2am. Music from 10pm.
Very good show band backs Elvis and Tom Jones tribute acts
as well as doing their own thing. Right at the heart of the
Patpong 'love' scene and has Lucifer's disco upstairs, which
also enjoys good crowds. A 'must visit' if only to see the
Elvis and Tom Jones impersonators!

At first sight the room appears stark, almost art deco, with
a bar straight out of Rebel Without A Cause. Californian chef
Steve is the chef manager and a friendly cove who will make
certain you're comfortable and well fed. The menu has a Californian
edge, although the base cooking is classical with modern twists,
and the wine list is impressive. The music comes from various
jazz musicians.

I am not sure if this is a smart bar or a disco. Given the
location in a five-star hotel I would have thought smart bar,
but the music volumes are more in line with a disco. The comfortable
room is pleasant enough though and features a circular bar.
There's also an interesting food menu, with a modern bias,
which also includes pizzas. Common Culture are the current
resident band, providing slick covers of pop classics.

A classic rock bar which has survived the years despite unspectacular
attendances and often unspectacular local rock bands. But
that's part of its charm and there are a few musicians who
pass through who can still strut their stuff!

A locals' hang out that has a pleasant cool interior with
metal chairs and a balcony, but strangely, no bar. However,
for those who prefer perching there are plenty of stools around
various bar height areas. The music tends to be pop, with
the emphasis on pleasing rather than inspiring. Basic Thai
food is available.

Probably the most consistent venue in town in terms of quality
of music, food and service. Music is a combination of jazz,
blues and classy covers. from bands like Arnon Jazz Band,
Bangkok Blues Band, Chai & the Blues Maniacs, Cheepchanok
and the Soi Dog Blues Band.

Another Irish extravaganza with live music, mostly cover bands,
most nights. Difficult to pin down the owners on who's playing
when as the place changes bands more often than a Nana bar
changes hands. The Voice, Life After Nine and No Fixed Abode
are there right now.

Located on the lower floor of this grand hotel, Spasso is
a chameleon that starts the night as a very acceptable Italian
restaurant and ends as a full-blown disco, albeit with live
music. At the weekends it gets packed and after 10, when the
music starts, there is a Bt600 entrance charge, which includes
two free drinks. Currently the music comes from A.O.C.

This is a large, modern room that's well-equipped but offers
little in the way of food, which is just as well considering
the low tables. The night I went the place was very short
of punters and I fear this may often be the case - it's a
big room to fill. Mauro Monti with Jazz Club play from 9.30pm-1am
six nights a week.

Tony's
Ital-Thai Tower,
New Petchaburi Road.
Open: 5pm-2am. Music from 7.30pm.

This is a large split-level disco-style operation with too
many staff mercilessly hustling the customers. And it's not
just drinks - Tony seems to think it's okay to try and sell
his unsuspecting punters anything he can get his hands on!
The Tony Band is a slick show band that gives disco beat a
full work out and there are some imaginative touches to the
musical arrangement and presentation which just about make
up for the over zealous staff.

Elegant, comfortable lounge that has large, almost too relaxing
chairs. An ideal spot for a late night drink and to listen
to the music of resident band Hot To Trot. This versatile
outfit is fronted by a blonde-haired Filipino girl whose enthusiasm
should keep you from dropping off as you relax in those chairs.

A commodious room which could, at first sight, be an estate
pub back home. But after that the comparison falls apart as
this is well decorated comfortable pub with a good sized bar
and a restaurant around the upper level gallery. The music
is sometimes jazz and sometimes pop/rock with a bias towards
Latin rhythms from the polished Witch Doktors. The Sunday
jam session, hosted by various bands, starts at 5.30pm and
runs all night
